Medicine and Denny's
From NZ,AUS, Fiji and US with newborn and toddler in tow in Flagstaff, United States on May 12 '07
I only get about 3 hours sleep in the night, due partly to me feeling rough, and partly to Lloyd keep stirring and crying as he is still ill.
So we decide in the morning that we will travel down to Flagstaff and get some medicine. We also decide to not go back to the Grand Canyon, as I am still not well enough to do any sightseeing.
if you want to commit suicide
In the Pharmacy its all very different to the UK. They dont have paracetomol, so I ask the Pharmacist what I can take whilst breastfeeding. Anything according to him. Not true as I know Aspirin isnt advised, but I dont say anything back, isnt worth it. It is bad that incorrect info is given though. Also you can buy massive quantities of pain relief here, no restrictions. The boxes tend to start at 100 tablets. So, if you want to commit suicide and cant be bothered to go in different chemists in the UK then catch a flight to the US and goto Target!
I also ask about medicine for Lloyd as all the boxes say "consult a doctor". He points us to one and says thats fine for Lloyd. I wonder why they have "consult a doctor" on them then! The baby medicines all contain sugar. Not like england, where most are sugar free. So even the pharmacists out here are on the sugar addition bandwagon, maybe the food companies are in cahorts with them!
We then head to Denny's, all rattling a bit from the medicine. Matthew is surprisingly well behaved, think he is hungry! Once again way too much food arrives, there are enough nachos to feed 8 americans and 20 english people. My steak turns out to be a burger in the shape of a steak, very very weird. Matthew enjoys it though (not sure what it is doing to his insides).
We head to Meteor Crater and park up outside it in a RV park. Its very windy, and a bit too packed in to play ball with Matthew. I take him to the "park" which turns out to be a swing and broken rocking toy. I wonder, not for the first time, why the americans dont have better playgrounds on their campsites. I think it is either that they dont bring kids away in RVs (or maybe not here in RVs), or that the kids dont use the parks. I hope it is the former for the kids sake.
We settle down for the night. I am shattered but feeling better. Lloyd is slightly better, but still under the weather. We decide Matthew's rash is related to washing detergent, as the rash is only where his clothes are rubbing on his skin. Its very worrying, I change him into clothes that havent been washing in america.
