Having crossed the International Date Line, we landed in LA before we'd even left Fiji. We collected our hire car, which turned out to be a massive SUV, far too big for just the two of us but hey this is America. We had a little trouble navigating LA's complex network of highways and freeways, and arrived at our motel a hefty six hours and one or two cross words later.

Over the next few days we took in the Hollywood sights - the hand and footprints of the Stars outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the stars on the sidewalk of the Hollywood Walk of fame, and a guided tour of the Stars' homes in the illustrious Beverly Hills. Unfortunately, the only celebrity sighting we made was a glimpse of Paris Hilton's backside as she disappeared into a shop during the filming of the Simple Life but that was good enough for Dan!

Feeling all 'starred' out, we headed out of town to the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park which is home to some of the worlds best roller coasters and thrill rides. To our disappointment, a couple of the best rides were closed due to the high winds - Dan was inconsolable!
