They sure do Christmas differently here...

After settling down in the douglas home, we were up and running with the holiday festivities. There isn't just dinner here... we were at Stewart's father's house (Doc and Sandra) for a massive 9am breakfast of seafood, pastries, fruit, cerials, bacon and eggs and of course a bit of o.j and bubbly. This all over the span of 3 hours with a bit of chit chat inbetween for good measure.

Merry Christmas Aussie styles!

Before I knew it, we were expected at his Unlce David and Irene's house for Christmas lunch with the rest of the extended family on Stew's mother's side. Let me tell you - this was no small affair. It was like My Big Fat Greek Christmas. The spread was unbelievable - from spanacopitas to backlava with salads, meats, cheeses, seafood, pastas etc to fill it out inbetween. There were probably about 25 of us all together sitting outside around a huge table nattering away for hours... in fact - we managed a record 9 hours 38 minutes of eating in total with a game of Trival Pursuit squeezed in there somewhere.Greeks sure take their gaming seriously! Well, lunch turned into dinner and by the time we got home I didn't think I'd have to eat again for the next week - obviously that didn't happen! I went to bed tonight with a full belly and a wonderful new experience of Christmas - even though I did miss mum's traditional turkey and cranberry sauce terribly. You never realize how much you do until it's not there. Merry Christmas Aussie styles!
