Since I'm doing sort of a "travel introspective", I would say that Amsterdam is quite an Eclectic city. Small city, but charged of history and sort of a city of "new social concept" due to all the world known DONT'S that are permitted here, such as drug use (Marihuana), legal abortion, prostitution, gay marriage, among others. This concept for them is reality, and they have managed to control it to certain degree, everything is regulated. I read and watched documentaries about it, I thought I was prepared, but when I first saw all these specially the prostitutes showing their bodies at the windows I was stunned, that reminded me of one of Dante's circles of hell.

Now moving to the historic part of Amsterdam, you should visit the museums located in the Museum Plein, Rembrant's house, Anne Frankhuis and don't forget to stop by the Heineken old brewery (Heineken Experience). During my stay I never took plublic trasnportation, I walked the whole city everything is almost within reach from any point of the city, the more you walk the more you sight see....watch out for those crazy byciclists.
