Lizards and Snakes

Finally somewhat settled on Ijong street getting to know the bus system sounded like a good idea since we thought left hand driving might be problematic. Daryl drove off to work in our rented Ford Falcon blueberry blue and I headed to Northborne street with my bus schedule in Hand. First bus # 32 to City Centre -- no problem and a pleasant shopping experience -- I have to shop by day as everything -- absolutely everything is closed by 5:30. Do you see the Lizard in this picture?

The staff smiled, guided me out and said " they live here, you're the visitor --- mate.

Feeling emboldened I climbed on to Bus 81 to the Botanical Gardens for what started out as a pleasant stress free visit. While exploring the garden paths full of thirsty fauna (big drought down here) quick green movements flashed in front of my eyes which widened as I realized they were very large and very fast Lizards and I was on their turf. Carefully backing my way out the rival gang appeared just as perturbed, brown poisonous snakes -- then I noticed the yellow caution signs-- The staff smiled, guided me out and said " they live here, you're the visitor --- mate. Do you see the snake in this picture --

Blasted Buses-- now for the quick ride home

Just get on the same bus and go back -- sounds simple.  45 Minutes later after three bus changes and riding all over Belkonnen and North Canberra I decided driving on the left can't be harder than riding the buses.

Moral-- know your bus route and where to get off.
