It is the third entry, and we still haven't gone anywhere. Get used to it folks, cause we won't be leaving for a while. I have had some responses to my unfortunate mass emailing that have wished us luck, implying that we'll see them when we get back. But we aren't going anywhere until September! Don't write us off yet! I know you've been trying to find an excuse to cut us out of your life, and frankly I don't blame you, but this isn't it, September is!

But to keep you travel buffs occupied we have decided to go on a series of short trips, mainly to see some stuff in this area that we won't get a chance to see for a long time. Tomorrow we are headed North, to Quebec City to visit my step-brother. We're taking a long weekend, stuffing a rental car full of down feathers, and driving directly into the worst winter storm of the season. Will we be driving by Lake Oswego where they currently have 10 feet of snow and counting? No, but we will be headed into the uncharted wilds of Canada where the forecast for this evening is 10 inches of snow, followed by another 5 tomorrow. This might sound to you like an incredibly bad idea, and I might agree. But isn't life built around bad ideas? I mean, isn't it a potentially bad idea to quit everything and go on a year long trip when there are plants here to be watered? Of course it is. But it will be something to tell the grandkids, or somebody's grandkids, as I sit on the porch and whittle myself a new wooden leg.

In which we make a bad, potentially very cold, decision.

Anyway, back to the drive itself. I'm a decent snow-driver, and an even better long distancer. My personal best is my 52 hour drive from Seattle to New York with my friend Jeff. It only took that long cause we over-slept in someone's driveway. It's only a matter of possibility. For instance, if it is impossible to continue, we will turn back.

Packing? Packing warm. We bought a few underthingers from ExOfficio in Seattle which sells high end, light-weight, mosquito repellant infused underpants. They are incredibly comfortable and great for layering. My stepbrother has suggested wearing two sweaters, which worries me. How cold is it right now up there? I just checked, not too bad. 16º and snowing. Heck that's just about what it is around here! It is pretty cool that thanks to this internet contraption I can know exactly what sort of winter hell we are intentionally plummeting ourselves into.

Wish us luck.
