We crossed to the west coast via the Lewis Pass, over the fertile Canterbury plains and across the mountains. We stopped at a little town called Hanmer Springs and spent ages in the natural warm pools. The kids were particularly impressed with the stinky sulphur ones (“eggy smell” as Luca described it)! We felt like new after that and slept like babies at the side of a river somewhere.
