Taryn: Today was our last day in Monteverde. In the morning we went to a spectacular waterfall in San Luis, a town near Santa Elena. Getting there was half the fun, however. We took a taxi from Santa Elena, and drove about 30 minutes to San Luis. The road that goes down into San Luis is basically one giant, incredibly steep hill. There were a few places that you wouldn’t want to lose your breaks at, because you would go flying off a cliff. Once we were down the hill, we drove over a number of medium-sized streams. I don’t mean drove over like we drove on a bridge. I mean that we drove through the streams. Also, there was a group of cows and horses in front of us on the road for a bit, that we drove behind. Not exactly something you see a whole lot in N.H. Finally, the taxi dropped us off at the start of the trail to the waterfall.\r

The hike took about an hour, mostly uphill. At first it was a real trail, then eventually we had to climb on rocks in the middle of a stream, that were rather slippery, then back to a trail, then more rocks, etc. We finally reached the waterfall, and decided that it was definitely worth the trip. It was about 285 feet tall, with sort of a break in the middle where we think it dropped into a pool (we couldn’t see the middle because of a cliff). Anyway, it was truly incredible. \r

By the way, does anyone happen to know what you would call a group of flying monkeys? We were thinking maybe a floup, or a mock, or something. Hmmm……\r
