We rised early to continue our travels... We made our way to the Thai border from our 'hotel'. After going through immigration and getting a 60 day visa, we got a taxi to Kuala Besut (1.5 hrs). This is the port to get a boat to the Perhentian Islands. The boat is at 8am, 12pm and 4pm. We opted for the fast boat (60 RM return) and boy was it fast :o) It takes 30-35 minutes to travel the 21km to the Islands. We opted to stay in Kecil (the smaller of the two islands) which is also the more backpackery and therefore cheaper :o) The Perhentian Islands are just amazing!! And it's sunny - yeah :o)

Although we came here to chill on the beach and get a tan, things didn't turn out that way. After deciding to 'Discover Scuba Diving' with the Quiver Diving Team, myself and Kev joined Matt in doing the PADI Open Water Diving Course. Am I mad??? :o) I only learned to swim 8 weeks ago!! The course takes 3/4 days but in short, we did it. We got the course. I have to say I'm pretty happy with myself..

The Perhentian Islands and a PADI

So as we were diving the nights were pretty easy-going...until the last one... To make up for our dry-patch and to celebrate our certification we drank an obscene amount of alcohol including monkey juice :o) A good laugh.

We say goodbye to the islands tomorrow. The Perhentian Islands - in one word paradise. A visit we would highly recommend.

Hi Vinnie. I just got the address of your webite from Melanie. I did my Padi Open Water course on Long Beach in May. I thought the diving was fantastic, the Sugar Wreck and Tokong Laut. It looks like you followed the same route as me from Krabi to Phi Phi to Malaysia. I loved Phi Phi too but it rained constantly for the whole time. I'm back over a month now and still haven't settled in. If you get to Bali, make sure you include Tulamben on the East coast. An excellent dive there - The US Libery shipwreck. Suzanne :-)
