Everyday starts the same way - Jordan asks "How many miles are we going today?"  To which I reply "We don't know, because we don't know where we are going"

One thing is for sure, we enjoyed our stay in France, and Annecy was the highlight. Paris was very nice, but I think I would like it much better if I was on a expense account.

After Annecy, we went to Evian, of bottled water fame, and then followed the coast of Lake Geneva to the Swiss border.

The road along Lake Geneva was very beautiful, and scary as anything with the heavy trucks and zero shoulder.  But as soon as we crossed the border the Swiss presented us with a path away from traffic, and a sign posted route all the way to Brig and beyond (Brig being at the foot of the Zermatt and the Matterhorn, our destination).

You gotta love the Swiss.  Their national pastime is being smug about how beautiful their country is and then being out in it.  The place is just very well set up for doing the sort of thing we are doing.

The route we are taking to Brig follows the Rhone river from Lake Geneva.  Last night we stayed at a campsite where the Rhone meet the Lake Geneva.  It is hard to imagine a more beautiful place.  Behind us was a marina with sail boats on a blue lake, and in front of us was the narrow Rhone River valley with cliffs towering above the clouds.  Breathtaking.

Of course breathtaking also applies to the prices in Switzerland.  Wow.  Even camping every night we are breaking our budget.  When we were here 3 years ago, we spent less on stayed indoors and ate ate restaurants.  Now we are in a tent and eating cold cuts from the grocery store.  A 40% drop in the dollar really can shake up a budget, you know?

We are all healthy and happy, if not a bit soggy.  OK, really soggy.  Here is looking forward to the week end, when we are supposed to see blue skies.
