Chefchaouen
From Pete & Vic´s Big Trip in Chefchaouen, Morocco on Feb 01 '06

We were relieved to arrive in Chefchaouen, and even managed to retrieve our own bags from the bus, avoiding the chain of bag handlers who find it impossible to believe that although you have carried your bag all the way to Morocco, you do not want to pay them to drag it from the bus on to the pavement.
After walking into the town, we spent a while getting lost in the Medina in search of a hostel. We didn't mind, though, as the Medina was full of very pretty blue-washed buildings and the sun was shining. When we eventually got our act together, we found we were lucky to get the last room in one of the hostels as it turned out the town was jam packed, due to a visit from the king, who was going to say a special prayer in the Mosque the next day.

Unfortunately, it poured with rain the next day but we still had a good time trying to dry off in some of the cafés whilst drinking mint tea and looking out for the king (who was royally late). Chefchaouen was about a hundred times more traveller friendly than Tangier and the people were all incredibly friendly to us. The next morning, we left on the bus to Fes with bags full of damp clothes.
