Salvador is a beautiful city.  I am staying in the upper city (there is a literally an upper and lower city, connected by a big elevator) area of Pelorunho.  The cobblestone streets and antique architecture in various shaped and colours is very pretty.  As with the whole of Brazil, however, it is expensive (Prices in Brazil are equal to those in Europe!!!).

Apart from sightseeing and going to the artisan market, I also went to a different area of the city to see the "real" Salvador, as Pelorunho is catered for tourists.  Both Friday and Saturday nights were spent initially on the streets (where the party starts) and then to one of the various bars with live music.

Next stop - Lencois

NOTES

Brazil in general, however, seems less safe to me than any of the other countries I have been to on this trip.  Maybe I am just paranoid, but walking on the streets alone carries a strange vibe in Salvador.

PS - The initial shock of hearing and trying to understand Portuguese has now worn off and I am getting accustomed to the language.  I can understand the accent now, and since many of the words are similar to Spanish, I can get by......Wehey!!!!!
