Goat Farming in Austria

The WWOOF farm we are working on now is terrific. We are in the mountains of Upper Austria near Czech Republic. The farmhouse is an old stone and plaster building, probably a couple hundred years old and set in green rolling hills -- beautiful.

Gunther and Ursula keep about 50 goats and process and sell their cheese. They are a blast! Jim is constantly learning German and they know enough English to converse with me too. Don't have to work too much -- wood chopping, feeding the goats, picking apples, chasing escaped goats back into their pen, random stuff. We spend a large majority of the day consuming previously unheard of meats and cheeses -- all of it organic!

Saturday they took us to a country fest! It was a riot. We could only barely recognize the songs (the band was a mix Australian and Austrian) and there was no Kentucky bourbon!

Auf Wiedersehen,

Jim and Tera
