Brussels
From "Training" in Brussels in Brussels, Belgium on Mar 23 '08
I came to Brussels for 4 nights to do an I.T training course with a leading software company. Well, so I thought. It turns out the training course had been cancelled but nobody had managed to tell me. Kinda embarrassing when you find out standing in the training reception but afterwards you just gotta laugh about it.
So, my trip was cut short and my flights were changed to that night. I had a day to take in the sights and so I made the most of it taking in the Cathedral of Saint Michael, Grand-Place, The Palais de Justice, Bruparck, Atomium, Belgian Center for Comic Strip Art amongst others. By the end of the day, I had mastered the metro and my feet were aching. During this time it snowed, rained, the sun shone, hail-stones, everything. Brussels has some lovely architecture. I was surprised somewhat by the different races of people and the number of languages supported and spoken.
A day taking in the sights..
[Atomium was €9 entrance. Not sure it's value for money. Outside photos might be sufficient. Comic Strip was €8 for the musuem. To be honest, there didn't seem to be alot to it. But the shop downstairs (free) was interesting.]
The journey home was all about the delays. It took forever to check-in, the flight was delayed by over an hour, the taxi queue in dublin airport was a never-ending snake of people. I got home after midnight. A long day. And that was my time in Brussels. What did I make of it - it's a nice place - in the very definition of the word :o)
