Italy vs. France... TONIGHT!
From Home in Genoa, Italy on Jul 05 '06
Just spent nearly five days now in one of my favorite Italian cities... Genoa. Most folks are probably asking, "whay Genoa? That place is a hole." If they said that, they were wrong.
Genoa, the home of pesto, is a medieval port town, home of Cristofor Colombo, with no real draw for american tourists, home of Niccolo Paganinni. This lack of interesting (to tourists in general) attractions makes Genoa one of the more "real" towns i have visited in Italy. Just a place where a bunch of Italian folks go on doing whatever it is that Italians do. From what i can tell, that consists of watching the world cup, driving like maniacs and gesticulating wildly all the while. So far i have made some day trips to surrounding areas, but mostly just wandered the streets, eaten at quint little trattorias and spent money at H & M (the IKEA of clothing).
Tonight, they set up a giant TV (not a projection screen, we're talking a semi truck with a "diamondvision" mounted in the back) in one of the main squares. Since i am planning an imminent trip into France, i was struggling with how i should spend my evening. Should i
- ship out and head for Marseille to visit Kelly and Justin's dad Bruno, watching the game there?
- Stay in Italy and support the "Force Italia" in their imminent victory?
Naturally, I decided to stay in Italy for one more night and stick with the team i have been supporting so far.
If anyone has any suggestions on where i should visit in the next few weeks (likely in France or perhaps England) or friends i should visit, let me know.
