We walked through the jungle here looking at places where temples were covered with forest but were lying waiting to be discovered. There are 1453 temples and so far only 500 have been excavated due to bureaucarcy not money issues.

We walked into one of the temples where the body of a female ruler was discovered covered with jewels and jade. They painted these temples in red, blue, yellow and black paints and the remains of these colourings can still be seen today.

Pakal the most important Mayan ruler

The temple of the inscriptions is the most famous building here. It is where the body of the most famous mayan ruler was found Pakal. Most mayans lived to no more than 30 years old he lived to 60 and began ruling the country at 12 years of age.

We also climbed some of the other temples to get a better view of the complex.

It was much more secluded here than some of the other Mayan ruins but still had quite a lot of visitors.
