The ice sculptures were amazing - flowers, animals, even ice chairs (on which I did not sit) and an ice bar. It was minus six in the exhibition and we had sense enough to keep our cameras warm between shots. Linda kept her gloved hands around hers while I tucked mine down between my ski jacket and my thick jumper (or 'down your cleavage' as Linda later described it).

We called couple who sat behind us on the bus, whose names we had not yet learned, 'Mr and Mrs Vegan' because we overheard them asking about what food would be available. We saw them in the ice sculture exhibition - they were chatty and friendly - taking photographs on a rather impressive looking camera. Back on the bus Mr vegan told us his camera, a Leika (I think) had stopped working.

I'm not sitting on that!

'You did keep it warm, didn't you?'

'Warm? How?'

No, he hadn't. oh well, I hope it worked when it warmed up.
