Even though I had met some amazing people (Hi, Mary & Caro!), I was ready to leave Venice and move on. I've found that after 3 days or so, I get pretty ansy. After breakfast, I said goodbye to all my new friends and left for gelato. I mean, the train. I left for the train. On the way, I may or may not have had some gelato for breakfast. Okay I did, but it was coffee flavored so it's really just delicious, icy, creamy coffee.

The next 9ish hours were all train. Italian trains are blech. Dirty and old even in first class. I had 8 hours on the Italian train, then a stop in Zurich where I hopped on a Swiss train. The difference was immediate. Clean, non-smelly. Much nicer than the ones based in Italy. I have no idea why this is so. Maybe Italians like their leather boots and super high fashion but don't need posh trains? Either way, we did go through the alps, so I had some amazing views. I saw at least 2 dozen waterfalls from snow melting on the tops of the mountains (sorry, pictures were impossible as the windows on the Italian trains are... well, dirty). When we arrived in Bern, I found my way to the hostel (thanks, Uncle Rene) and started on laundry immediately. The hostel was nice but there's only 1 washer and dryer. It took me about 3 hours to do laundry (waiting for the washer and then waiting for the dryer and then putting my in). I finally fell into bed at 1 am, excited about sleeping in the next day. Train travel is tiring! You know how you get sleepy driving? Trains are just like that for me, except there are tons of strangers around, you stop every 20-30 min and then more strangers get on. It's not a bad way to travel by any means (I quite enjoy it) but it does make it difficult to actually sleep on the train.
