Lonely Planet describes this island as "teeny-tiny" and like no place on earth.

Saba is a 13 sq klm island with it's dormant 3000ft volcanic peak,Mount Scenery, rising almost vertically straight out of the sea.

Is this "hobbitland" or some 18th century celtic village? This enchanting destination has 4 immaculately kept villages, all linked by "the road that couldn't be built"(because of the rugged terrain).

Well kept graveyards and church from the 1700's. Herbs grown amongst the graves.

Loved this place as we felt we had walked back in time....and walk we did....with over 12 hiking trails on the island. It was wet during our visit so we opted to walk from one town to another on "The Road". Everywhere you walk is either "up-hill" or "down-hill" with breath-taking scenery (that sadly my camera and the photographer couldn't do justice to).Took 200+ photos in 2 days.......relax, we will only share a sample with you in this log.

Lots of: generations of proud locals, unusual accents(with a hint of irish),medical students, good dive sites (voted best in world in 2007?..or so we were told),goats, chooks, uniformly coloured shingled cottages.

Very little: Litter or Modernisation.

Statistics..1600 locals (350 are school age or younger) plus 300 medical students.

A Bit of trivia..."The Road" is made of concrete and took the locals 15 years to complete using wheelbarrows! The extension of the road to the airport (that has the shortest runway landing in the world) took another 6 years.
