Yodel-tastic
From Backpack Attack in Zurich, Switzerland on May 09 '08
Sorry it's been awhile, when you are in cities this fantastic it is hard to justify spending money to sit in front of a computer screen.
I met Katie in the Munich train station. A big band played music right in the middle of the station, it was great. (Gabe- they played Green Day!) We caught a train to Zurich, Switzerland.
I was expecting dour bankers and serious watch makers and instead I found one of the most beautiful cities I have every seen. We went to Lindenhof park, which has an amazing view of the entire city. There we ate lunch from a grocery store, listened to the church bell sing out the time and played chess on a giant chess board.
Our hotel was amazing and the next day they served a free breakfast which included swiss and brie cheese, flaky croissants, salami, hard boiled eggs and coffee. Heaven!
We spent the day walking along the canal through parks. It was a Sunday so the entire city was out walking around and relaxing in the sun. I got more sunburned than I thought possible in Europe. I look like a lobster now. We bought bratwurst, kabobs and beer from a street vendor and sat in the grass for lunch. It was delightful.
We walked through Zurich's University and wandered through ritzy neighborhoods. It's a lovely city. There are churches, random sculptures and some much else. There are also shutters on every building.
After a few days of that wonderfulness, we traveled to Interlaken, Switzerland. It is a city nestled in the Swiss alps. We took a train up into the mountains and hiked by waterfalls. The water was the most amazing shades of blue.
We had cheese fondue and swiss chocolate. The whole country is like something out of a painting. The people are friendly and relxed, the food is good and the country is gorgeous. Two thumbs up Switzerland.
It's so fascinating to see all of these new countries. The world is fresh and new again because I have seen a new corner of it. The customs and landscape may be different, but the people are the same at their core and there's something truly beautiful in that.
Tomorrow we are taking a train to Salzburg, Austria. It's hard to believe that my trip isn't over yet, but I'm not even half way done.
Love to all.
