Rafting Captain

Our next stop was the rafting camp at Barinas.  We spent the afternoon playing in the rapids in the river and having competitions to see who could swim upstream - I appear to now have a nickname of Salmon Sally :-0

The next day was our white-water rafting - grade 4 as there hadn´t been any rain overnight so the river wasn´t raging too much but there were lots of rapids and we managed to lose our captain Arion when he bounced completely out of the boat like Tigger and Tony fell out 5 times!  I swapped to a different boat with a Spanish guide and tried to learn very quickly what forward, backwards etc are in Spanish - the captain was very experienced but a bit crazy and kept propelling our raft into rocks so that we would spin around and go down the rapids backwards.

At the end of the day he let me be El Capitana and steer the boat down the last couple of rapids which I managed quite well without falling out and then proceeded to ground us on a rock in the calm water!
