From the finca at Rio Tatin, we took a lancha back to Rio Dulce and from there we took a bus to Guatemala City. This time not a chicken bus (but still way below the standard of buses we know in Europe).

We were warned that Guatemala City is not the safest/prettiest place to be and we so we decided to move onto Antigua. We had to take a taxi to a different bus station (as walking would be too risky) and our taxi literally stopped in front of the bus so we could get on without risk of being robbed (the first time we felt really unconfortable really). This was another American style schoolbus, but this time we had 3 people sitting on one bench (as opposed to two everywhere else). We don't know how many people where on the bus (as we could not move with one backpack on our laps and a third person next to us), bit is was a record for us. Anyway, we made it to Antigua safely and within 1.5 hrs, so no complaints.

Antigua must be one of Guatemala´s finest cities, with beautiful colonial architecture and fine churches as well as Maya women wearing traditional, colourful clothing. Just after we had checked into our hostel we experienced one of the many heavy rainfalls Antigua has at this time of year. Streets were flooded within minutes and electricity failed.

We had some of the traditional pupusas, flour tortillas filled with cheese, beans etc. and turned in early. We plan to stay here a couple of days and might visit a coffee plantation or climb volcan Pacaya (still-active). To be continued!
