Obviously this is a main ferry port for Belgium and Europe, but when you go to the beach to the west of the terminal you might as well be a million miles away from all that.

Zeebrugge is a small town, but a very large sea-port is to the east, and the seafront is limited, but the beach is fantastic. You may park your car along the beach side road at no charge and then ENJOY! All kinds of sports activiities are taking place and it is great to just sit and watch. In the summer months dogs are restricted from walking on the beach so you walk along the dunes for a short while and then join the main beach further along towards Blankenberger. No problem and quite acceptable.

The beach is wide and deep and it takes quite a while for tides to go in and out allowing lots of room and time for everyone to play

If you are into para-surfing or wind surfing then this is definitely the place for you. The beach is wide and deep and it takes quite a while for tides to go in and out allowing lots of room and time for everyone to play

Early in the year it can be very windy and then you walk closer to the dunes where there is more shelter. Coming into the spring the algae in the water can sometimes create a lot of foam on the water that then blows along the beach like snowballs! Summer is the best with a long long walk to Blankenberger beach. So often the beach has been wide open and empty but this probably feels that way because it is such a large beach with room for everyone.

Back at Zeebrugge it is time for a cool refreshing Belgian Beer while you admire the view and soak in the sun.

Check out pictures of the beach on http://www.williamtje.com
