Tel Aviv was a good start for my trip through Israel. I spend a bit more than a week at my friends place, got to know some of her friends and what was most important for me, the Israeli way of life and the typical food (which is really great). April is a good time to go to Israel, or not, depending on what you want to do. It´s a great time if you want to experience the culture, because its the time of the most important holidays, like passover, holocaust remembrance day and independence day. It´s a bad time if you want to travel a lot around the country, because all public transport is "frozen" on holidays, as well as every saturday (shabat). The shabat is the last day of the week, like sunday is in the western culture. For me it was pretty weird. I went along the streets that are usually packed with people, but on shabat they were nearly empty. Most of the shops are closed too, so be aware of that!

On all other days of the week, Tel Aviv is a vibrant city during the day as well as at night. Especially around the shopping areas like Sheinkin street an King george street. Every friday there is a great artist market on Carmel Market. You can just walk along the colourfull stalls the whole afternoon and find great souvenirs for your friends back home.

Then of course there is the beach, which is the best place to relax after a day of shopping...You can watch the kite surfers and locals and cool yourself down in the waves of the Mediterranean sea. Every friday evening there is a sunset-session at "Aviv beach" where different artists ans musicians meet to play drums and dance at the beach. It´s a great atmosphere so don´t miss it!

In the north of the city, there is a nice park along the Yarkon river where you can rent boats, play golf, or again just relax and go for a walk.

If you want to get around the city you can usually stop one of the "sharuts" which are big taxis. They are cheap and get you to your destination quickly. They have different numbers for different routes(like a bus), so you better ask where they are going before you get in.
