Island hopping in Greece began with a relaxing stay on Naxos. We climbed Mount Zeus, with spectacular views of all the Cyclades, wandered through the labyrinth of alleyways in Hora, enjoyed a bazouki evening in the Venetian Kastro and had an ouzo or three by the harbour!

Our first glimpse of Santorini as we sailed into the caldera was unforgettable, with villages teetering on the rim of the steep volcanic cliffs. We stayed in Oia where hoards of visitors gathered every evening to literally applaud the sunsets! Hundreds of steps led down to tiny harbours, where we enjoyed grilled octopus and squid at the waterside tavernas.

Our third island stop was Paros, where Vee had visited over 20 years ago. Naoussa had grown quite a lot since the 80's but its quaint fishing harbour still had octopus and mackerel drying in the sun. We took caiques across the bay to various beaches where we topped up our tans and enjoyed swimming in the clear blue Aegean. From Lefkes we strolled along an ancient Byzantine road through olive groves with great views across to Naxos.

Back in Athens we explored the Acropolis, learnt the difference between Doric and Ionian columns and marvelled at the craftmanship of the Ancient Greeks. Our tour ended at the original Olympic Stadium.

We were sad to leave the brilliant sunshine and blue skies- a daily feature of our Greek trip!
