Today we took the first ferry (8am) from Wellington to Picton, on the South Island (2 adults and a car NZD 218 / GBP 70). As we could not leave our car in Wellington and pick up another one in Picton, we had to take the car with us, which was easy as well as we did not have to carry all our stuff with us.
The ferry took about 3.5 hours and the view was stunning. The weather was great and therefore we had a clear view of Wellington when we left and even better views of the Marlborough Sounds, towards the South Island.

Upon arrival Tal got lost on the boat and could not find the car (wrong deck so it turned out). A bit of an awkward situation as Tal was carrying the keys and therefore J could not get the car off the boat.. But the crew was very helpful and reunited us again and in the end we did manage to get off the ferry..
We decided to stay in Nelson for a couple of nights, about 120 kms west of Picton (2 hrs), close to Abel Tasman National Park, according to many, New Zealand's most beautiful national park.
