We left Boston on Saturday night and had an uneventful transatlantic flight to Frankfurt. A harrowing cab ride brought us to our hotel, where heaven on earth was found in the form of tiny Ritter sport chocolate bars and a hot shower. We then set out to explore the city.

Unfortunately we have to agree with guide books, which say that there is little to see in Frankfurt besides the airport. We arrived on a Sunday, and we think today is some sort of holiday, because it is eerily quiet. We wandered into the cathedral, and found the restaurant behind it recommended by Yuri & Irina. Nibbled on Bavarian coleslaw and ridiculously long sausages with gravy & mashed potatoes with cold beer. In the square a marching band for a Europe NFL team was inexplicably performing "Smoke on the Water."

Today we have had a chance to catch up on some sleep and reading ...almost done with my book about the Amber Room, which we´ll see in St Petersburg (we leave tomorrow).
