Okay, now some photos of Antigua.  Make sure you click "see more photos" as I have patiently uploaded 10 of them!!!  I have taken so many pictures here because it is so beautiful!

Spent another day today in Antigua, visiting so many beautiful places - this is quite the city.  Sort of Guatemala-lite - I would recommend it to anyone!!  The restaurants and cafes here are absolutely beautiful - it is hard to imagine finding something so beautiful in Atlanta.  Or perhaps all of the beautiful restaurants in Atlanta are just out of my price range, and therefore I do not realize that they exist - this is definitely a possibility.

And after 2 and a half days of Antigua, I am exhausted.

Today I visited many more ruins.   As I mentioned yesterday, my favorite place was the convent and church of Santa Clara which was founded in 1699 by nuns from Puebla, Mexico.  It was destroyed and rebuilt several times after earthquakes.  Now they have beautiful gardens amidst the ruins.

Another one I enjoyed was Las Capuchinas, this was founded by nuns from Spain in 1726.  They had to promise that they would not collect any payment from the novices before they were allowed to build.

Many more visited - the Monastery of San Francisco, La Merced, Casa Papinoe - and I have some pictures from each.

And after 2 and a half days of Antigua, I am exhausted.  Also did a bit more shopping - as tonight I am headed to Guatemala City to leave my bag for the next 3 weeks until I am back there the night before my departure to home.

In the morning I will head from Guatemala City to Rio Dulce (about a 4 hour ride - ugh) and take a boat up the River (which is supposed to be fabulous!) to Livingston, where I will be for just one night - but about a day and a half.  I am looking forward to this as it apparently is quite a different Guatemala - much more Caribbean - the Garifuna people live there.  So I am excited for a bit of a change.

From there I am headed to Finca Ixobel Thursday-Sunday - this is a retreat sort of place - you can check it out if you want www.fincaixobel.com.  I expect to do some swimming, lying around in a hammock, exploring caves, and I am not sure what else.

Before I leave Antigua, I have got to purchase a novel to bring with me to the finca.  All the books I brought with are non-fiction and a little heady, so I am looking forward to a fictive world.

Okay, I guess not too chatty or pensive today - I hope you enjoy the photos!

Becky, I love the photos! I loved that convent while i was there, too. Okay, now for non-travel-related comments: i finished Six Feet last night. Mama mia, i feel like i deserve the day off today. It was amazing but i can hardly concentrate on the real life. Ah, me and my problems. Good luck in Guatemala city and enjoy that caribbean side of life!

Becky, these pictures are so incredible! You have a wonderful eye, I hope you frame some of these when you return. We're getting ready to go up to Kanuga this weekend, so I'll be off-line, but keep the entries coming!
