We sat through hours of traffic, but we finally made it to Switzerland and it was beautiful. It was just like the movies (Sound of Music) and the Alps are astounding. We stayed in Murren which is on the edge of a cliff near the main city of Interlaken. We stayed there for two nights and really took in the Swiss atmosphere. The first half of everyday are beautiful, but apparently it rains every afternoon. There are no cars allowed up there so u have to take a gondola up and walk everywhere, but the town is so small that u can get anywhere within ten minutes. The first morning we woke up to a view of the Alps with clear skies. After breakfast we took the gondola up to Schilthorn where they filmed part of a James Bond movie, and they never let u forget it. The view from up there is spectacular and you can see all the surrounding mountains as long as it stays clear. After some clouds started rolling in we went back to town and had lunch before taking a funicular up part of the hillside and hiking down. Shortly into our two and a half hour hike it started to rain a little, then it stared to rain a lot. The rain came and went throughout the hike but there was some amazing scenery. The hills were all green and spotted with flowers, there were small farms with cows and the mountains in the background. Even with the rain it was some of the best views I have ever seen. We made it back into town and when we went to do my laundry it started pouring rain again so we sat and played cards until it let up and the clothes were washed. We had fondue for dinner and got front seat to a live Swiss band that was having a banquet and must have had fifteen pieces playing at once. Our last morning we hiked down to an even smaller town, Gimmelwald, and then took the gondola to the bottom of the valley. Form there we hiked along the river to some waterfalls that were in caves. The waterfalls were roaring and they cut right through the mountain side. They are fed by the Jungfrau, Eiger and Munch glacier and are the only ones of that kind in Europe. We took the gondola all the way back to Murren and it had started to rain so we packed up and took the train and gondola back to the car. From there we drove into Grindelwald to see the town and get some souveniors. It was there that my dream was finally fulfilled and I got to see one of the big horns like in the Ricola commercials. Although it wasn’t on a mountain top, it was cool. After that we started the long drive back to France.
The hills are alive, with the sound of music
