Question

From Hannover - Here we come in Garbsen, Germany on Jun 02 '07

Frau has visited no places in Garbsen

OK

I was just with Rainer about the trip the Germans are making through Texas at the first part of October. They will be with us on the 13th and we will need host families for 24 students. But that is not my question.

Does anyone know anything about Loredo?

The question is this... They will be going to Houston, Galveston, Corpus Cristi, Loredo, Bandera, San Antonio/Austin and then join with us in Dallas.

Does anyone know anything about Loredo? They want to be able to cross the border for a bit. Also, does anyone have any suggestion of places along that route that they might want to see?

Thank you for the help

Frau

Across the border of Laredo is Nuevo Laredo. I found this as a description -- Might be a worthy see for the German continguent: Nuevo Laredo, city, northeastern Mexico, in Tamaulipas State, on the Río Grande, opposite Laredo, Texas. Connected to Laredo by the International Bridge and by rail, it is a major port of entry and a tourist center, as well as a market for cattle, cotton, grains, and sugarcane raised in the area. Industries include textile and flour milling, cotton ginning, fruit canning, sawmilling, coffee and vegetable-oil processing, and printing. The city was founded in the mid-1700s and was considered a part of Laredo until 1848, when the eastern bank of the river was ceded to the United States. Population (1990) 218,413. I know you are all having a great time! Marley's Mom

In the Houston and Galveston area there is the Kemah Boardwalk. Check out www.kemah.com and go to virtual tour. This was highly recommended by a co-worker that lives in Houston. They have lots of resteraunts with local seafood, attractions, rides, and shopping. She tells me there really isn't a lot to see around Houston anymore.

Frau!! Here's a link to the city of Laredo, it might help http://www.cityoflaredo.com/ Also, you might shoot Reger an email since he just got back from duty in that area, he would probably have some non-touristy info. Miss you and sooooo wish we were there.

I know what you mean, I used to live there. While staying in Houston, they plan a day tour of NASA and then time on Galveston beach. So they should hit Kemah. I hope they do. Thanks for the info. Frau
