5-16-07

After a send off from Natalie, Nan, and Thomas on 5-15, we’ve made it about 24 hours in the RV now. We got off to a bit of a rough start, but it will make for great stories. About a mile from Banner Elk on 194, Sean and I were just discussing all the emotions we ere going through headed out a such a big trip; like can we do this, what if we break down, can we fix things if they break. Low and behold, we had our first mishap and in was in typical bumbling fool style. On 194, there are a couple of rocks that hang over in the road, up higher so that most of the time you don’t notice them and are not bothered by them. But in an RV, it’s a little different. We got a little too close and clipped the awning off altogether and broke a portion of the right hand mirror. Sean was in typical form and it didn’t phase him a bit, laughed the whole way! So, of course, I was able to recover quickly too. Fortunately, our good friend and contractor, Ed Turbyfill happened down the road just in time to help us. With Ed’s help, we got the awning braces off and there was minimal damage to the RV itself. Incidentally, the awning didn’t have a canvas on it anyway, so it was really just extra weight. It was sheer luck that we didn’t have time to get the thing fixed before we left. We feel fortunate to have gotten that mishap out of the way early on. However, I am sure this gives you all a very big laugh – as well it should! We were laughing too!!

So, we carried on to Blountville, TN to the auto parts store, fixed the mirror and kept on going. We made our destination, Chattanooga, TN. We hit our first state park, Harrison Bay was very nice and we met some extremely nice and helpful people. Mary Eldridge, Linda and Bob helped us. They were very knowledgeable and helped us get the hook-ups and dump station sorted out. We feel like we’ve made major strides in the RV world.

Headed to New Orleans, but we’ll probably be stopping somewhere between Meridian and Hattiesburg, MS tonight.

Hi Everyone! Good to hear you got that out of the way... who knows what would happen down the road. Or, shall I say "up the road," as you never know what could be lurking above you! Miss you! Sounds like you are having a blast! Love- Natty Light
