Ok so i'm only on day two. I shall add as i go.

I really like Singapore, from the moment i arrived. Everyone is friendly and the city is a nice combination of culture and big flashy buildings. I'm staying at Sleepy Sam's backpackers in a huuge maze of a dorm with no doors and like 40 beds. Also free internet and breakfast. I went for a drink with a dutch girl i met on the shuttle bus from the airport last night, and then chatted to this guy from Canada for aaages because he has been to the place in Romania where i shall be going, so was getting me more excited about it. It's half 8 in the morning now, which makes it like half 1am in england. Just about to take full advantage of the free breakfast. I'll take some photos today and get them up pronto.

I have a lot less money left than i thought :( Ah well, i saved it for spending.

I finally feel like a fully independant traveller :) ready for anything etc. How exciting. And now i have to go home... Well living out of a bag does start to grate on you after a while!

More later, i have yet to explore the city xxx

I explored the city, well some of it, i must've walked 4 miles. Mostly because i kept getting lost. I went to 'Little India' and the indoor arcade market thing there. A man on a motorbike followed me asking to take me for a drink. Then 'at least take my number..?' how desperate can you get!! No is no. But mostly when people here say hello to me i think it's mostly just friendliness, like almost everyone i passed said good morning to me, and the guy who shouted 'HEY WHITE GIRL! WELCOME TO SINGAPORE!'

The architecture here is pretty odd, with faded and crumbling old buildings with peeling colourful paint next to huge glass skyscrapers and very snazzy modern buildings. I had a singaporian lunch with rice and a few random sauces. And did a bit of shopping.

In the afternoon when the rain storm had quietened down and i had watched the royal tenanbaums, me and alex (that would be my canadian friend) went for like a 3 hour (barefoot in my case) walk round downtown and all the big skyscraper buildings. It was pretty amazing, and the river was really pretty.

In the evening me and alex and james went for some food and a beer in this huge food court full of drunk old singapore men and no girls but me. Then we met up with Mar (that would be my dutch friend) and drank at her hostel with a big group of people. An english guy called elliot got some spinny things with tails that you spin through the air looking cool and we all had a go (mostly failing miserably to master it). Was a really fun night.

However i woke up bitten to pieces. Yummy louise.

I'm sitting in the hostel and there's another rain storm. I go up to KL tomorrow and then home... Can hardly believe it.

In the evening i had some yummy chicken fried rice with James and then we went to the 'prince of wales' pub (strangely an extremely australian establishment) before meeting Mar and Elliot etc. We played some (very poor) pool and then had a load of beer. Everyone went to bed and me and Elliot set off in search of the Swissotel in order to see the city from the highest building. We failed miserably to find it and instead ended up in some random bar full of singapore men exclaiming very loudly at a Liverpool football match on the tv. We wandered round some more and i ended up getting about an hours sleep and a bite of marmite toast for breakfast before i had to go and catch my bus to KL. It was a fun night though, and i slept a lot on the bus.

KL sucked, mostly cos my flights got messed up. It was a big old noisy city. Luckily a guy from my singapore hostel was on my bus so we checked into some backpackers and had some food.

If this kefuffle with my flights had happened at the start of the trip i would've completely broken down. As it is i am obviously a seasoned traveller who can deal with anything, because i have not become too distressed. Look how independant i am! I now have a 17 hour stoppover in sri lanka, but maybe i'll get the posh hotel and free meals again. Not complaining. xx
