From Granada we headed back to the coast at Marbella where we spent a night (during a fierce storm) and then drove on to San Roque near Gibraltar. The wind was still raging and we had to take it very slowly for fear of either being blown of a high bridge or being nagged to death by my co-pilot.

We spent a few nights in the La Casita campsite, which is staffed by some very friendly people, but overall is way too expensive for the facilities provided. We also spent a night in the Gibraltar truck stop (in Spain) which is a muddy, but very convenient for entry into Gibraltar.

After crossing the border at La Linea you actually cross the airport runway before getting into the airport proper. We timed our run to perfection and stood at the barrier watching a plane land in front of us before walking across. Not done that before!

Gibraltar is a funny little town built onto the side of a bloody big rock. The main street is full of high street names (if you live in the UK) and we had a very nice plate of fish and chips at one of the pubs. Its tax free as well so booze, cigarettes and perfumes are all cheap.

and its british wot.

The main attraction is the rock and the famous apes…and we decided not to see those so we cant comment! I have it on good authority that the cable car is the best way to the top though. Maybe next time we will venture up there!

Dave.
