Had an early breakfast and headed up to Trim Castle about an hour from Dublin. I enjoyed the ride up there as we got to see more of the landscape and countryside. Just green rolling hills and valleys with farms and livestock thrown about, very charming and beautiful. As we entered the town of Trim you could see the imposing structure of the castle coming up in the distance. A very well preserved and intact castle built by the Norman's in the 1100's was run by Hugh deLacy and was a very important strategic point for the conquerors. We walked the castle grounds for a bit looking at the various ruins and then headed into the castle for our guided tour. The little old lady running the tour was great, she was what I would expect the quintessential Irish grandma to be like. She was very knowledgable and gave a great tour. We made our way through the cold, narrow passages, great halls and winding staircases up to the top of the keep. The view was amazing of the surrounding lands and I took the oportunity to snap some of my favorite pictures of the trip. I was also surprised to learn that this is the actual castle where they filmed Braveheart. Just some usless trivia for you.
