The morning was very relaxing – breakfast around 9:00 am – then a relaxing 4 hour cruise on the Rhone River to our mid day destination of Trevaux – this is in the middle of the Beaujolais wine producing country. Our bus tour in the afternoon took us to a very small village called “Oingt”. This is a very old city with cobblestone streets and a few shops – the views from the top were spectacular – you could see all of the local vineyards.
Then we had the highlight of our day – a tour of a local vineyard – “Domaine des Averlys” - our hosts were Etienne & Murielle they were the 3rd generation owners of the vineyard. We spent around 45 minutes in the fields learning about how vines grow and how they prune each plant. The age of the vines ranged from 20 to 120 years old. We then entered the wine celler for our wine tateing. Now … not only were we able to taste the wine but Murielle had prepared some cheese & sausage for us to sample. This was another opportunity for learning – and tasting some really great wine. We tasted White, Rose & Red Beaujolais then the brandy tasting wine with the higher concentration of alchol – at the end of the day – we purchased the brandy!

Then back to the boat for the “Captain’s Reception” and dinner …
We’re enjoying the uniqueness of this river cruise – the tours are one of a kind … you don’t feel like there’s another bus load right behind you …. At the vineyard our hosts were really welcoming …
During dinner we began to cruise to Lyon … after dinner we had a night cruise through the city of Lyon – it’s a very beautifully city – especially by night …
Life is very good in Lyon …
