Hobart was busy so we camped in the outskirts of town near a historic town called Richmond. Richmond is a colonial town known for its goal and convict build bridge.

We went into Hobart to visit Salamanca markets. The girls got frustrated as there was so much to buy (including elephant and monkey toys/ ornaments of all descriptions). This led to $1 per day allowance for washing dishes and helping cleanup, etc.. with a $3 bonus per week for good behaviour. This gave the girls the ability to buy whatever they wanted and practical experience at saving and dealing with money. It also put an end to annoying nagging like “Daddy can I have one of those, pretty please…”. After the markets, we strolled through Battery Point looking at old colonial architecture.

We went to Silver’s Circus which just happened to be in town and the girls loved it. We drove to the top of Mt Wellington into and above the clouds for amazing views of the Derwent River and surrounds. A and I had a big argument while playing Put Put golf!, but became friends again shortly thereafter. We liked Hobart’s Botanical Gardens, referred to as Titanic Gardens by M. The Cadbury Chocolate Factory tour was a big hit.

One day we struck some very hot weather for Tassie, 34 C, and headed for 7 Mile Beach to cool off.
