Our Spring Break travels really began on Thursday evening. While Elizabeth and I booked our tickets together and planned most of our week’s travels based on our own schedules, fifteen of our friends also decided to visit Greece over Spring Break. Therefore, throughout the week we divided our time between ourselves and the entire group.
We departed for Frankfurt International Airport via the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof around 6:15 p.m. While our flight was originally scheduled to depart at 9:15, we instead did not leave Frankfurt until 10:30. We arrived in Athens around 2 a.m. as a result of an hour leap forward. By the time we collected our luggage, rode the bus to our hotel and checked in it was nearly 4:00 a.m. We slept for only two hours in order to make it to Piraeus Port by 7:00 a.m. We then purchased tickets to Santorini and proceeded to board the ferry, which was gigantic. Although we were exhausted and somewhat crabby we quickly became excited. With nearly all seventeen of us aboard, we began the eight our ride to the island. I personally ended up taking a motion sickness pill and passing out inside the cabin as the outer deck was too chilly to enjoy. At 3:30 p.m. we finally arrived in Santorini and quickly locating our shuttle bus from the hotel, Manos Villas, that would bring us to our lodgings. All seventeen of us and our mounds of luggage somehow managed to squeeze into the van for the twenty minutes drive. Upon arrival at the hotel we were all surprised and disappointed to find our much anticipated pool empty. That’s what we get for traveling in the off season. After checking in and depositing our luggage we walked into the main city just in time to watch the sun set despite extremely gusty winds that nearly blew us all down. Tired and hungry we sat down for dinner at one of the few restaurants open in the city, Poseidon. I went for the Greek salad which tasted delicious! Fresh vegetables at last! That evening we all headed back to the hotel early and crashed.
We then purchased tickets to Santorini and proceeded to board the ferry, which was gigantic.
