The story begins when I picked Tom up from the airport in Lyon.  Originally we decided to meet at the baggage claim, but there was no way for me to get there so I had to wait outside custom doors hoping that he wouldn't wait forever near the baggage area.  As it turns out, he figured that I couldn't get in, so he found me.  It was really different to see someone who you once spent almost everyday with and haven't seen for almost 3 months but in  good way.  Like seeing a long lost relative after a really long time (or something like that).

I had big plans while we were in Lyon, but Mother Nature didn't agree and unfortunately halfway through our day it was raining cats and dogs.  First we took a bus to the Lyon train station, because we were taking the train back to Grenoble.  The train was also how Tom was getting back to Lyon and he would have to find the bus again so I wanted to make sure he knew where he was going since he doesn't speak French.  So we took the bus and then tried to find the Basilique.

We walked around a while, and looked at the Rhone river and then wound our way up to the Basilique.  We stopped to have some lunch (pizza! yum!) and we talked to our waiter how we were both from Michigan.  He asked what big cities were in Michigan so I told him Detroit.  You know, I said, Like Eminem?  Well, he knew who Eminem was and continued to tell Tom that he looked like Eminem.  HAHA yeah right, but it was funny anyways.

We made our way up to the Basilique and there were horrible rainclouds above our heads.  Unfortunately I wasn't thinking when I left for Lyon because I have 2 umbrellas at home.  In fact, I bought the second one in Rome and I was thinking how smart I was because then when Tom came we would have 2 seperate umbrellas.  But I didn't bring either so after the Basilique we went to the Roman Theatres and were completely soaked.  We took the funiculaire down to Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) and I wanted us to have a nice stroll around, maybe do some window shopping and eat dinner in Old Lyon.  Well we were too cold and wet to think about anything other than going home to Grenoble but the train tickets weren't until 10:20pm, so we went to the train station to try and get earlier tickets.

The people at the train station were very nice and we ended up getting on a train around 6 so we could get back to Grenoble earlier.  It wasn't raining in Grenoble so we were able to have a nice dinner at a place called Altitude 1480, which is a chalet type restaurant with typical French dishes like tartfillette and raclette.
