Saturday 5th was a first full day in Cairo so we ventured to the museum. The real adventure was getting there by taxi !  The Taxi's of Cairo are an attraction in themselves in that they are 30 year old Fiats that are beaten up, none of which have speedos connected and headlights don't work but the fricking horn does !  We also learnt that traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and painted lines on the roads are for decoration only !

Anyway we spent 4 hours exploring the museum where we got our first glymsp of pharonic history.  The mummy room was especially interesting and worth the extra 70 pound entry.  The mummies were amazingly preserved and still had their hair, teeth and nails.  I'm wondering if I will still have mine after a 5000 years !  We got to see the famous Tutakamun gold mask plus all his other treasures that he was buried with.  You can spend a whole day in the museum as it was so packed with history.  Saturday was also a holiday marking the end of Rammadan and the streets were alive with people happy and celebrating that they could eat again after one month of fasting !  We decided to walk back from the museum as it was only 2k's to our hotel.  On our journey back we must of received a 100 'Welcome to Egypt' and 'Where are you From' from cheery Egyptians.  We also learnt to cross the road Egyptian style which is similiar to a game of frogger !  In the evening we met our guide Kimo and the rest of our group.  There was 8 of us girls on the tour and Vaughan was the only bloke ! lucky him !!

Sunday was a big trip to the Pyramids which I had only been waiting 38 years to see !  We were intoduced to our guide for the day who even know he knew his stuff sounded like a tape recorder !  The Pyramids were amazing and fact they were right smack up against the city subhurbs its what I expected.  We got the opportunity to go inside the second largest pyramid, a long hot narrow tunnel where you bent double for most of it until you reach the burial chamber.  We spent about 2 hours around the pyramids and sphinx taking piccis and exploring the grounds.. it was very enjoyable.
