Salzburger
From Steve, Ken, and Darren's eurotrip! in Salzburg, Austria on Sep 27 '06
Heading to Salzburg, i had no idea what to expect as i knew absolutly nothing about Austria except for the mountains, and the mountains did not dissappoint. Dont get me wrong theres mroe to Austria then just mountains, in fact we found that the people were quite friendly and always willing to chat for a lil while which was a nice change from the norm. The actual town sits in between several hills\mountains with the Salzburg? River winding its tourqouise mountain run off through the city. Seemingly it gets dark early and light late due to the "hills" surrounding but its a trade off you make when you wake up to a mountain in your window every morning. Although the city speaks german it doesnt have a german feel to it, its hospitable and the people are friendly. Architechture wise, the streets are small with high buildings covered in either paintings on portions or sculptures in their place to keep the eyes busy enough to forget about that taxi that will undoubtedly take the legs out form underneath you. As for activities, you can find ski hills in season, climb to the top of the town for what i belive is Europes largest fully intact castle or sit down the one of the many squares and watch as men battle it out on an oversized chess boards! Anyways, im going to cut this one short, im tired and cant write tonight , need some rest and still have not found that silly apostraphe button on an european keyboard.
