11:45 pm CT Omaha Nebraska.
After a long chat with the guys on women, we cross into the land of weird billboards and buildings. Peter has taken over driving. Nebraska has the speed limit of 75 which caught peter, a normally cautious driver off guard. No one has really slept yet, I am due up to drive in under 4 hours, and I am exhausted. We have changed the leg of the trip to end in Cortez, CO. Thanks to our Navigation Droid, LT-20 (affectionately “Geepy”) we have found out that Durango is over an hour from Mesa Verde, and Cortez is only thirty minutes, but is farther away. The deciding factor was when LT-20 notified us of an Indian reservation next to Durango. Steve seems to be afraid of native Americans, so we have decided on Cortez, which is named for a vicious Native American killing machine.
Sleeping and Driving is so much fun...

We are all wide awake and in a frenzy. Car sickness and “cabin fever” have us all wide eyed. I wonder if we are going to come down hard. We are under the opinion that pure adrenalin can get us to Mesa Verde and explore the park without sleeping. We will see if it happens. If this insanity happens, we will be a whole day ahead of time, since we were slated to actually do the park on day 3. This would also give us the chance to extend our journey to other locations, such as Vegas. We will see. Currently, after leaving Omaha, Lane Shifts in I-80 are freaking Steve and Peter out. So perhaps crashing is much closer then I thought.
