The adventure starts here
From Nearly there :-) ! in Bangkok, Thailand on Nov 18 '06
Ok, i flew into Bangkok near enough on schedule at 16:00 Thai time absolutely knackered and a wee bit smelly. The new airport looks really good (not that i knew what the old one looked like) and was nicely air conditioned compared to the hot sticky heat outside.Phew! I had loads of time on my hands because i had to wait for Andrea to arrive, which didnt happen till 20:30!! So i helped Marla find the Quantas check in desk because she had to change a flight. You might think this would be easy but no no no! We scaled all four floors of the airport and asked atleast 12000 people before finally getting there an hour later, i think, just to find out that she has to phone the office downtown in the morning :-( So we got a drink and wandered down to the lowest level to sort out buses into Bangkok itself, after a natter, a laugh and about 45 mins she got her bus and i carried on my waiting game (it isnt as fun as it sounds). Andrea turned up fashionably late (2 hours) at 20:30, tired and smelly too. We got our bus and headed to our hotel - The Majestic Grande. We got there for about 11pm. It was really nice and they gave you this cool kiwi sort of drink. YUM! The room was huge, touch on lights and TV etc, a king size bed (which i nearly got lost in), a 34 inch TV. a bathroom and a shower room, the list just goes on. We both had a shower (which really was needed) and then gave room service a call at midnight :-) I had a huge burger while Andrea had a club sandwhich, they were both really good. After the midnight meal we got some deserved sleep, to prepare for the day ahead.
We checked out of the hotel at about 11 and headed into the 35 degree city - Youch!! After making our way to the train station and sorting out our bus to Chiang Mai we went on a wander until our departure time of 18:00. It was horrible! It smelt, it was busy and it was so so hot! So thats my review on Bangkok so far - Urgh! But it gets better :-)
Urgh!
