Que dia!
From Que dia! in Barcelona, Spain on Jul 11 '01
What a day! Made it to Barcelona, took forever to get to where I was supposed to be going. But made it there allright, although I ave to admit I did break down and take a cab because after about 1 hour of bussing and training and metroing around, I said forget it, I'm tired! They are sort of friendly to Americans here (but mostly I think because we give them our money!) No noticeable ripoffs yet, much to Al and Dave's pleasure I am sure. The biggest bummer so far was that I was suppsed to meet Al (Franzies son for those who know) and I couldn't because we just couldn't meet up , I couldn't get to a computer to check mail. So that sucked. So Al, I emalied ya, but if you're reading this, I\168m sorry kiddo.
So let's see, what's happened. Ventured down to the Ramblas last night, which was crowded...ate at this one place, got mixed paella, which is supposed to have SOME chicken...nope all seafood. Not the greatest thing I've ever had. Missed the bus stop circling back, but hey, no worries. I just got a little bit of a view o the city. Then got a good night's sleep. Today has been eventful. Caught the bus back down to the Plaza Catalonya (sp?) to the Ramblas.....was walking around trying to find the Picasso museum, and I was definitly mugged. Ha, yes, some kid (around 8 the little twerp!) walked right by me, and just as he got to me I knew it was coming (that 6th sense kind of thing). He grabbed for my purse and my camera, but I didn't let him get it. Wasn't able to give him any bruises that he'll remember, unfortunately, but I made out perfectly ok, a little nervous, but more pissed. So that put a little damper on the day, but stopped at this cute place to eat, only could end up eating water though (I guess I was a little more nervous than I thought) Certainly confused the waiter. Oh! Speaking Spanish...the good news is I can still do it, and the people understand me! But the real bonus is that I can understand them, and we can talk like normal people. Nice, very much so. But anyways, I am on the ramblas again, and this internet shoppe is great, millions of computers, and only 200 pst. for 42 minutes. That's about it. Heading to a tourist trap info center now, need to find out a few things..probably going to Monsterrat tomorrow (away from the city, a natural wonder type thing) probably the beach for a day, the Olympic center sometime soon. I am having a good time though, really! Oh, another quick story. Got hit up by some women \168selling \168carnations...definitly were going for my wallet. I said a few choice words to them. But it's all part of the experience (if you're reading this nanie, don't worry. There are plenty of cops everywhere and they are very nice and helpful). Ok, off to see some more sites! Catedrales are beautiful here!!! And Gaudi is amazing! And yes, a tad homesick (hey, it's an adjustment thing)
Hasta pronto.....
