What a great weekend. To celebrate Daph's birthday and Valentines day I arranged for a weekend of boarding. Â
Daph had boarded before but this was my first time. I grew up skiing and spend most of my weekends surfing -- so I figured how hard could it be? Well, pretty hard!
Great Valentines Weekend
Took us a few hours to drive up through rush hour traffic on a Friday night but the drive was easy and fun. Arrived late and got upgraded by the hotel to a suite. Apparently if you have a regular room you are more likely to get upgraded to a suite if you arrive late. On the other hand, if you have a suite you are better to arrive early to get the best pick. As it was we got a great two room suite with a fireplace and two flat screen tvs for the price of a regular room.
The next morning we got up and made our way to the hill. The weather was perfect. Sunny and warm. Daph already had all her stuff but I needed to rent. I ended up getting a great deal on a beginner package for $84 which included equipment rental, lift ticket and lessons.
We had a great time on the bunny hill practicing our turns. Daph was very patient with me and was cool about staying on the bunny hill. Thought I would mind being on the bunny hill a lot more but was perfectly happy to take it slow at first. Turns out the weigting of your feet is opposite to surfing. Carving turns feels like surfing and is the same principle as skiing but boy can you take some good falls by getting the weighting wrong :( Later that night we took the shuttle to the olympic village for dinner. We ended up eating at the restaurant at the Plump Jack Resort. The next day we got a couple more hours of boarding in before we headed back to the City. All in all a great weekend. No more skiing - I'm a boarder now :)
