Failed chance to see Obama

It seems to be very hard to see president - elect Obama these days. The competition seems to be hard, hundreds of thousands of people would like to see him up close, shake his hand, take his photo. Whenever something is published in the media about his whereabouts, people flock and try to see him.

We just wanted to test this theory and went down to the Union station, where his train was supposed to end the trip from Baltimore. We couldn't see the president-elect, but we felt the tremendous energy of locals and guests in Washington and area. To me it was pretty much similar to the situation we had during democratic changes - all the positive energy was just spreading. All those people who brought changes on their backs should really celebrate and I'm glad to be at least one small part of it.

On another note, countryside is pretty interesting in Alexandria - some people really have neat places to live in. We have been to the biggest shop around and it strikes me that you should watch for prices and best deals whatever you do. For us coming from crazy Balkans it may be insane to do that - after all, we're well known as the big spender nation, wasting money, time, resources. This continent here - well, you have to watch if your transportation ticket is good enough. You could be saving money and you don't know it... The myth of Americans as careless spenders is busted, as much as I'm concerned. Regular Americans really watch what they are doing.

Among those deals, you can really enjoy yourself. Treat yourself with Obama cookies, or by any kind of t-shirt, pen, fridge magnet, anything you desire... Hey, there was even a mask, so we can all be Obama. How 'bout that?
