The First Week

After leaving at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5th we finally arrived in Heidelberg at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night. We were all exhausted as a result of several minor set-backs (i.e. cancelled flight, lost luggage, etc.). After a late dinner from Heidelberg Pizza Hut we did the room lottery in order to identify which room we would be living in for the next year. I ended up in one of the most fabulous rooms in the house, and after some switching my friend, Skyler, was able to room with me. We actually share a room with two other girls as well. Our room is connected to another room that contains three girls. I will most pictures soon (maybe after we decorate-it's kind of bare right now). Between waves of jet-lag and ongoing orientation sessions, both Thursday and Friday seemed to slip by in a blur. We were able, however, to acquaint ourselves with Heidelberg through orientation as well as our own exploration. Thursday afternoon three of my friends and I ate at the Journal Café on the Hauptstrasse (the main street in old town Heidelberg) and I drank my first German beer! All the hype is justified…it was delicious!
