From the North Unit we headed North West to Watford City. Watford City is home to the area’s visitor’s center and ND largest Petrified Tree. The visitor’s center was actually built around the tree stump that is still in tact in the ground from the inside of the center. While the center is new, clean, and cool, we didn’t find too much of interest there. We drove through the town of Watford City and while we saw a few new bars and night spots, the town was not one we bothered to park the car for. Please take into account it was a Sunday and not much of anything except for church going and family get-togethers ranks in importance.  After driving through the two stop lights the town has, we headed westward toward Arnegard, home of the Old School Bed and Breakfast where we were to stay that evening.

Arnegart is about 10 miles west of Watford City and is so small it doesn’t even have 1 stop light. It does have 2 bars though, one called the PDQ (Pretty Darn Quick), a few churches, and a café. Interestingly enough, Arnegard also has a 9 hole golf course that is owned and maintained by the town. It is part of the town park and is free to use for anyone with a desire to hit a few onto a flat sandy green. Arnegart’s old elementary school looks abandoned and rather sad from the outside, but once we checked in to the beautifully renovated building we were instantly in love with the Old School B&B. We met Milt Hanson there, the owner, and after a tour and check in, we headed right back out toward Alexander west of Arnegart.

Going Back To School Was Literally Going Back In History
