A thunderstorm overnight relented by morning and we were treated to a beautiful day which was a terrific change after rain every day in the Alps. They are obviously green for a reason. So it was nice to have the sun on our backs and allow us to work on our tan lines. Today we rode the first half of Stage 10 which took the tour riders from Tallard to Marseille. This was a very long stage albeit downhill for the most part. However 229km would take us all day and into the night so we were breaking it into two. It, again, made us appreciate how awesome the tour cyclists are. Three hard days in the mountains and they ‘relax’ with a 229km stage the next day. Sheesh. We stayed in Gap and Tallard was about a half hour south. Is a small town but reportedly world famous for its aerological conditions allowing all manner of skydiving, gliding and aerobatics.

Donned our bikes again and headed south with wind at our backs. Made fantastic progress for the first two hours riding down the river valley and through lovely town of Sisteron which has an old fort (now nunnery) guarding a narrow entrance to the valley beyond. However as we approached the Med, the sea breeze kicked in and we once again faced a headwind. We put our heads down as scenery a bit dull and made the small town of Saint Paul Les Durance which sits alongside a canal and just up the road from a heavily guarded nuclear research facility. Good day overall and nice to finish in dry clothes for a change. Total ride of 115km in 4 hrs 4 min at 28.2kph. Total so far 1349km.

Only les Frogs could toss soldiers out of a fort & replace them with nuns. Actually, after a moments thort, nobody left - they just changed the name of the place to comply with the Fair Trading Act. French soldiers? Now there's an oxymoron.
