Who put the hills at the end?
From Our Insane Attempt to Ride the 2007 Tour de France Route in Dijon, France on May 24 '08

A torrential thunderstorm erupted in Joigny overnight and so we faced the prospect of a wet day on the road for the last stage of our first week. However it had cleared by morning and we headed off under clearing skies. Todays stage took us from Chablis to Dijon, a distance of 125km. This was a transition stage as the tour doubled back on itself at this point. No way were Andy and Nev heading back north after coming this far! First half of the ride was stunning. Through fields of produce in the deepest green against sunny skies. Picture the Windows opening wallpaper and you have our view. Once we passed through town of Montbard at 70km however the road started climbing. A 5km climb out of the town was followed by a succession of horizons just higher than the one we were on. Very frustrating. Then had two long 10% gradient descents which were followed by similarly steep ascents. Last one was at 120km and so a good test of our legs before the Alps begin next week. But both finished in good shape and we are glad to have finished the first week. Today was 125km in 5 hr 5 min for total of 733km in six days. Looking forward to a few red wines tonight to celebrate.
