well...after a bit of a restless night in Ashford...see separate review...oh by the way I'd give it a 3 bones rating...they were friendly but it was too hot in the room for furry beasts!

Anyway we left this morning bright and early...we chased a couple of rabbits round the hotel garden before we left with poor mum chasing after us and hissing in a strange quiet voice about waking up other people...who cares I ask myself?

Anyway after a quick snack of chicken from the cooler we were bundled in and off we went. We arrived at the Channel Tunnel at 7am and encountered our first queue of the day. You have to either punch in your booking reference into the machines at the entrance or buy your ticket. Lots of people seemed rather confused..I think sometimes humans develop too much technology on the pretext of it going quicker when  in fact it doesn't!

Anyway we got through and before we knew it we were driving onto the Eurotunnel train. It was so exciting that Angus fell instantly asleep. I though there might be lots to see but in fact there is nothing to see at all apart from the odd bit of fun watching people trying to get through the air lock doors to go into another carriage to go and relieve themselves...why??? its only a 30 min journey...even I can hold on that long!!

Anyway off we go and decide we are going to Fontainbleau on the SW side of Paris first. My dad wants to 'connect' with a grey headed woodpecker...fat chance of that. The queues on the road were absolutely horrendous and what should have taken us just over 3 hours took us 7 !!

So we abandoned that plan and drove straight to Orleans.........

Hello Hamish, My word, sounds like you and your brother have been really busy since leaving home for the first leg of your exciting holiday. Shame about your room being hot and stuffy though. You'll have to get your mum to buy a portable fan so that if you get into a situation like that again you can tug on her skirt and get her to put it on for you!! Pleased you survived the Eurotunnel experience. I've had many a laugh myself watching people frantically pushing the air lock doors open on their way to the loo's. Suppose it's one way of passing the time on what can be a boring journey. I hope you behaved and didn't do what Hamish people do when it suits them...relieve yourself anywhere onboard! Still, with your exemplorary upbringing I wouldn't have expected anything else! Hope you and your dad weren't too disappointed in not 'connecting' with that grey headed woodpecker?! You'll have to keep your eyes peeled for him while he's driving so that if you spot one you can give him a yelp or two!! Keep looking out for crop circles too because when I was out on Saturday evening my friend and I passed a field near Brundal where the 'aliens' had been doing some overnight work! There were lots of sightseers and the field looked very decorative and the circles were so precise. Bet you and Angus would find it much more interesting than keeping a lookout for woodpeckers!! Well Hamish, I must close now and get back to work. I hope the next phase of your journey is as enjoyable as the first part but with less traffic! Don't forget to tell your mum and dad to drive carefully as the french have a habit of getting in the way from time to time! Bye for now Gill x
